Margene Graessle, 96
Margene E. Graessle, 96, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
She was born May 22, 1916, in Buckland, the daughter of Carrie M. (Snyder) and Edgar R. Mertz, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 28, 1939, she married Frederick W. Graessle, and he died Dec. 16, 2003.
Surviving are a brother, Eugene (Nancy) Mertz, of Lima; four nephews, Michael (Angie) Green, of Wapakoneta, Glen (Valerie) Biederman, of Wapakoneta, Robert (Patricia) Biederman, of Simpsonville, S.C., and Michael G. (Chrissy) Mertz, of Spencerville; a niece, Barbara Green, of Wapakoneta; 10 great-nieces and nephews, Brian (Stephanie) Green, Natalie (Arby) Turner, Patrick Green, Tracy (Chuck) Miller, Toby (Wendy) Biederman, Drake Mertz, Alyssa Mertz, Dylan Mertz, Daniel Biederman, and Jessica Biederman; five great-great-nephews, Garrett Miller, Jacob Miller, Brandon Biederman, Noah Biederman and Elijah Biederman; and a close family friend, Robert Baker, of Cridersville.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha J. (Raymond E.) Green, and Ruth G. (Harold L.) Biederman.
Margene retired in 1981 after 35 years of service as a secretary at Standard Oil Lima Refinery. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, and the former Elks 1120, both of Wapakoneta. A graduate of Buckland High School, she was also a graduate of the Northwestern Business College in Lima. She had served as chairwoman of the Oakwood Hills Association, and enjoyed sewing, reading, playing bridge, cooking, traveling, and baking. She enjoyed an active social life, and always had a soft spot in her heart for animals and the Auglaize County Humane Society. She and her husband Fred always made time for their nieces and nephews, and were like second parents to them and grandparents to the great nieces and nephews.
Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Steven Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
