Margaret Elsass, 100
Margaret C. Elsass, 100, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Dec. 25, 1912, to Mary Anne and George Loegel, who preceded her in death. On April 8, 1934, she married Vernon â€śBillâ€ť Leroy Elsass, and he preceded her in death on Jan 4, 1982.
Surviving are three children, Betty, of Wapakoneta, Mary Ann, of Wapakoneta, and Larry, of Cridersville; two grandchildren, Larry Jon, of Wapakoneta, and Gwen (Ed) Wilges of Fordyce, Ark.; two step-grandchildren, Russell Myers and Jeremy Myers; two great- grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Ruth Loegel, of Athens, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Magdalena Barbara (Clarence) Lhamon, Elizabeth Sophia (Russ) Wayt, Bertha M. Loegel, Mary Loegel, and Matilda Loegel; and four brothers Philip Loegel, Robert John (Ruth) Loegel, Carl George (Mary Ellen) Loegel, and Francis Loegel.
Margaret was born and raised on the family farm on Ashburn Road in St. Johns. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in the St. Markâ€™s Lutheran Church in Clay Township and later became a member of the St. Markâ€™s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wapakoneta. A homemaker all her life, Margaret enjoyed taking care of her family, gardening and loved animals. She also enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and crocheting. This remarkable lady maintained a wonderful attitude and outlook throughout her life, loved to laugh and always looked for the good in others.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Mark Bauer officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery in Moulton.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Markâ€™s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Mercy Unlimited in Wapakoneta.
