Marcille May Cole Oakman, 85, of Wauchula, Fla., formerly of Waynesfield, died Monday evening, March 5, 2012, at her residence with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born April 16, 1926, in Cridersville, the daughter of Anna (Walti) and Herman Dawson. In 1947, she married Russell Eugene Cole and he preceded her in death in 1956. On July 2, 1989, she married Robert D. Oakman, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Patrick (Cindy Lynch) Cole, of West Union; a daughter, Penny Jane Gilroy, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Gilroy, of Middletown, Paula Gilroy, of Lima, and Billy Carpenter, of Lima; four great-grandchildren, Austin Gilroy, of Lima, Bryston Gilroy, of Lima, Sarane Gilroy, of Middletown, and Elora Gilroy, of Middletown; two step-children, Barry (Irene) Oakman, of Spencerville, and Brenda (Robert) Short, of Spencerville; a step-daughter-in-law, Barbara (Roger) Crites, of Spencerville; six step-grandchildren, Stacy (Denise) Oakman, of Spencerville, Jason (Rene) Oakman, of Bellefonte, Pa., April (David) Riley, of Convoy, Brian Oakman, of Spencerville, Heather (Greg) Grothouse, of Lansing, Mich., and Aaron Short, of Columbus; and 12 step-great-grandchildren, Austin Riley, Noah Riley, Jordyn Oakman, Caitlyn Oakman, Joseph Oakman, Rachel Oakman, Lanny Oakman, Caden Grothous, Alea Oakman, Jacob Oakman, Zachary Oakman, and Jolie Oakman.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Darrel Ray Dawson, and a step-son, Lanny Oakman.
She was a graduate of Cridersville High School and had retired from Sears-Roebuck & Company in Lima in the accounting department. She was a member of the Waynesfield Baptist Church and also the Charley Creek Baptist Church in Wauchula, Fla.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Waynesfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Branch Cemetery in Waynesfield.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Contributions may be given to the Waynesfield Baptist Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville.
