Lois ‘Sarge’ Parlette, 79

Lois R. “Sarge” Parlette, 79, of Cridersville, died at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1933, in Spencerville, the daughter of Mary (Brown) and John Bowers, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 4, 1954, she married James J. “Jim” Parlette, and he preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Jim (Bev) Parlette, of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Jody (Roger) Miller, of Wapakoneta; two grandsons, Jimmy (fiance Brittany Hunnaman) Parlette, of Lima, and Allen (Kriston) Miller, of Cridersville; a granddaughter, Nicole (Justin) Taylor, of Wapakoneta; two great-grandsons, Brooks Taylor and Elijah Dekok; a great-granddaughter, Italy Miller; a brother, Donald (Gloria) Bowers, of Lima; a special niece, Eileen Sponsel, of Spencerville; and a sister-in-law, Jean Rader, of Lima.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Roger Allen Miller II; four brothers, John Wesley Bowers, Homer Bowers, Dale Bowers, and Bobby Joe Bowers; and six sisters, Sylvia Richardson, Florence Caywood, Heelen Zimmerman, Marjorie Page, Thelma Bowers and Hazel Bowers.
“Sarge” will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family. She was known for her strength and determination. She was a devoted caregiver and her willingness to sacrifice for others had no limits. Holidays, entertaining family and friends, sharing memories and family traditions were a focal point of her life. Her strength and determination have influenced all who knew her. Getting to meet her great-grandchildren was one of her greatest joys. She had an amazing musical aptitude and in her teen years was the pianist for Hartford Christian Church. She retired from United Telephone Company as a long-distance operator. She later worked at Cridersville Nursing Home and Otterbein-Cridersville. The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Rita’s Hospice.
Services were at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mathews Cemetery in Lima, with the Rev. Jim Loughrin officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery.
Calling was 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel, in Lima.
Contributions may be given to St. Rita's Hospice in Lima.
