Locals run nostalgic race
CLEVELAND — The first ever Christmas Story House Run on Saturday in Cleveland marked the 30th anniversary of the holiday favorite film. Money raised by the 5K and 10K went to revitalizing the neighborhood surrounding the home where the movie was filmed.
Several locals ran in the downtown Cleveland race from Public Square to the house, now a museum to the movie.
Joanna Bell and Diana Varno ran the race together, despite frigid temperatures and were amazed at the number of people running the race: some in pink bunny suits such as Varno’s.
“It was a fun and a great experience,” Varno said. “Running with all the people that were there and meeting a lot of people from out of state.”
Bell agreed, commenting on the number of people running in costumes from the movies or holiday get-ups.
“One of the neatest parts of the race was seeing all of the people decked out in their costumes from the movie,” she said. “There were people in bunny suits, leg lamps, even people dressed as dogs going after the family’s turkey.”
