A local woman, honored for her service both inside and outside the community, was named 2014 “Woman of the Year” by the Women’s Civic League of Wapakoneta.

“Tammy Brown is an example of a faithful servant,” club member Susan Rinehart said. “She has been working both physically and spiritually to serve our community’s needs for many years.”

Mercy Unlimited Executive Director Tammy Brown was awarded at a regular club meeting Wednesday evening. Brown has been working with the local mission and food bank for 22 years, in addition to raising five children and running their family farm with her husband, Tom.

“There’s 30 beautiful, very much more qualified women here. I’m really no different than all these other women,” Brown said. “Most of these are business professionals. They all raised families. They all are great wives. They did it, too.”
