Lewis H. Metzger, 86

Lewis H. Metzger, 86, of Spencerville, died Friday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic following complications of surgery on Nov. 4, 2011.
He was born April 6, 1925, in Spencerville, the son of Carrie (Stonehill) and Frederick Metzger, who are deceased. On June 21, 1947, he married LaDonna E. Good, who survives.
He is survived by four children, Frederick L. “Fred” Metzger, of Spencerville, Gary L. Metzger, of St. Marys, Randall K. “Randy” Metzger, of Spenccerville, and Penney R. Gerdeman, of Fort Jennings.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II,, serving in the Rhineland and Central Europe as a tank commander until 1946.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with the Rev. David W. Howell offficiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery, with military rites by the Spencerville
Veterans.
Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spencerville Veterans Memorial Park Fund.
