Lessons in skating

October 9, 2013

Isaiah Wachauf, Ian Hurley and Kasen Mills put on their wrist guards after tying up their roller skates during a physical education class at Wapakoneta Elementary School on Tuesday.

Cautiously making their way along the gym floor, two Wapakoneta Elementary School second-graders roll past the cones and turn a corner with small smiles marking their success.
Avery Hutt, 8, remembers what it was like when she didn’t want to get off the mats where they sit to lace up their roller skates and fasten their wrist guards.
“The first time, I don’t think I went off the mats, now I am not scared at all,” Avery said. “In kindergarten, everyone kept falling.”
Hannah Elling, 7, said skating is fun and each year they get better.
