Leo A. Mackesy, 91

Leo A. Mackesy, 91, of Lakeview, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday evening, August 23, 2012.
He was born on July 9, 1921, in Oilsprings, Ontario, Canada, to the late Alice Nelson and William Mackesy.
He also was preceded in death by two sons, Billy and Donny; two grandsons, Timothy J. and Donald W.; five sisters, Margaret, Dora, Kate, Mary and Ann; and six brothers, Bill, Tom, Jim, Jack, Pat and Frank.
On Sept. 22, 1945, Leo married the former Donelda Marian Irene Bridekirk, in Petrolia, Ontario, and she survives along with seven children, Doreen (Curt) Peterson, of Bellefontaine, Marilee (Glenn) Lerman, of Fairfield, Carol (Bill) Gunn of Bryan, and Larry (Jayne) Mackesy, Doug (Susi) Mackesy, John (Roxanne) Mackesy, and Paul (Lisa) Mackesy, all of Lakeview; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Leo was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, in Russells Point, for 58 years. He was a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 4378, of Russells Point, and a Past Grand Knight. He also called Bingo at St. Mary of the Woods for 20 years.
A pipefitter/welder by trade, he worked out of Local 776, in Lima, for 33 years. He also owned and operated Lake Sanitation for 23 years.
More than hobbies, Leo engaged in carpentry, building and restoring homes.
He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed.
The Rev. Patrick L. Sheridan is to conduct a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
Visitation is to be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shoffstall Funeral Home, in Lakeview, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial is to be in Huntsville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given in his name to Universal Home Health and Hospice Care or St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
