Kathryn G. ‘Kathy’ Welker, 58

Kathryn G. “Kathy” Welker, 58, of Wapakoneta, died peacefully at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima surrounded by her family.
She was born March 23, 1953, in Lima, the daughter of Emmagene (Keller) and William “Bill” Cool. Her mother, Emmagene Kennedy survives in Wapakoneta, and her father is deceased. On March 19, 1983, she married Thomas C. Welker, Sr., and he survives.
Other survivors include four children, Jeremy A. (Sheri) Welker, of Lima, Jodie R. (Ken) Baughman, of Wapakoneta, Tytus A. (Jamie) Welker, of Nashville, Tenn., and Thomas C. Welker, Jr., stationed in Gulfport, Miss.; five grandchildren, Brianna, Benjamin, Lydia, Vanessa and Sean; two sisters, Cindy (Tom) Croissant, of Houston, Texas, and Nellie Kennedy, of Lima; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerrold C. and Polly Welker, of Elida.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Cool.
Kathy worked as a transportation specialist with the Shawnee Local Schools on Bus No.. 9. She was a member of the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, where she was active with the children’s ministry, the church choir and playing the tambourine.
A 1971 graduate of Lima Senior High School, she was a member of the Wapakoneta Choral Society and the Audubon Society. She volunteered at the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District and was a Venturing Crew adviser with the Scouts. She was a wonderful cook, and loved to camp, travel, and attend Encore Theater.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, 14871 Fox Ranch Rd., Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Dan Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in the Lewis Grove Cemetery, North Thayer Road.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
