KAPOW car show grows each year

August 13, 2012

The third annual KAPOW Car Show, Craft Show and Flea Market is to be held on Aug. 25 outside of the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.

Cars and crafts will be the focus of an upcoming event to benefit local children in Wapakoneta.

The KAPOW (Kids, A Priority of Wapakoneta) will be hosting its third annual Car Show, Craft Show and Flea Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 outside of the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.

KAPOW President Mark Selvaggio said the money raised by the club goes toward the children in the Wapakoneta area. Some of the things that the club has sponsored for the children were achievement ribbons, magazines for the Auglaize County Public District Library, helmets for a bike safety program and the Auglaize County DARE program.

“We put this event on to help give back to the kids in Wapakoneta and the surrounding communities,” Selvaggio said.

Each year the turnout of the event grows.

“The turnout was a lot better last year,” Selvaggio said. “We were up about 25 cars from the year before.”

Approximately 75 vintage cars and trucks, some dating from the late 1960s and early 1970s, were present at last year’s event, and Selvaggio said he hopes to bring in more this year.

“Hopefully we can bring in more cars,” Selvaggio said. “The more cars we have, the more money we can give back to the kids.”

Local businesses are sponsoring trophies again this year to award to the chosen winners, and the event also is to include Best Overall, Club Choice and Kid’s Choice awards, along with dash plaques for the first 50 entries.

Attending the event is free and all children attending may vote on their favorite vehicle for the Kid’s Choice Award.

“People should come out and see the neat cars and stroll through the craft show and flea market, as well as the museum being open.” Selvaggio said.

A DJ is scheduled for entertainment and a 50/50 raffle is slated for the event.

Car show registration is held from 9 a.m. to noon and the fee is $10. Contact Mike Goudy at 567-356-0008 or Skip Brodie at 419-234-2507 for more information on the car show.

To reserve a 12-foot square space for $10 for the craft show and flea market, contact Diana Schneider at 419-738-5816 or Nina Laney at 419-234-1036. Participants are asked to bring their own supplies and canopy.
