'Just Us' to kick off Gospel Tent at fair

June 27, 2011

The Just Us Quartet, which consists of members Don Bailey, Everett Gross, Dale Dicus and Garth Parsons, is schedule to perform at 7:30 p.m. on July 31 in the Gospel Tent at the Auglaize County Fair.

A local gospel group, who have been together for 11 years, plans to help kick off the Auglaize County Fair by performing on July 31 in the Gospel Tent.
Just Us Quartet sings a variety of music, including gospel, while sharing their faith through music. The group is a local quartet from Wapakoneta, and are a regular to the Gospel Tent each year.
The group consists of lead vocalist Dale Dicus, tenor Everett Gross, baritone Garth Parsons, bass Don Bailey and accompanist Karen Butler.
“We sing at places all over the area,” member Don Bailey said. “We will go to any place that invites us.”
The quartet has sung Sunday morning and evening church services, conventions, banquets, benefits and other gospel tents at various county fairs
Just Us Quartet fills up the gospel tent by bringing in approximately 200-300 people each year.
“It’s neat that we are able to sing gospel music in a public forum,” Bailey said.
The quartet practices once a week and typically performs at least twice a month.
Singing in the Just Us Quartet is a hobby for the members. They enjoy singing gospel music and they have many memorable performances.
The name “Just Us” came about because they said they are just ordinary people.
Just Us Quartet Business Manager Marilyn Alexander said as they were brainstorming names one day, they decided, “let’s just be us.”
The members of the group said they are just ordinary people, and their occupations include an RV builder, dairy marketing, salesman and a truck driver.
“They enjoy performing locally for fans,” Alexander said. “It’s a way to share their talents and music.”
This year, the group is working on releasing a CD for their fans. It is titled “Grace” and Alexander is hoping it will be available for purchase during their performance at the fair.
“We took our time this year and recorded several times a week,” Alexander said, of putting together the CD.
The group also will be busy performing this summer, other than the Gospel Tent at the Auglaize County Fair, they will be playing at Waynestock in St. Marys on July 23, New Knoxville United Methodist Church on Aug. 28, The Gospel Barn in Bluffton, Ind. on Sept 10 and Trinity Lutheran Church, in Moulton, on Sept. 11.
Just Us Quartet is scheduled to perform on at 7:30 p.m. on opening day of the fair, which is now Sunday, in the Gospel Tent at the Auglaize County Fair.
