John W. Staples, 58

John W. Staples, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:57 a.m., Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born April 6, 1955, in Lima, the son of John A. & Ruth (Brewer) Staples, who survives in Wapakoneta. On March 28, 1980, he married Cynthia R. “Cindy” Hibner, and she survives.
Other survivors include, a daughter, Ashlie R. (Andrew) Casey, of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren, Lillie, Hannah, and Cole; a sister, Guyneth (Dean) Coolidge, of Wapakoneta; a sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Theresa (Ted) Johnson, of Brookville; nephews and niece, Tyler, Caity, and Charlie.
John was owner and operator of the S & S Racing & Fabricating and Laser Chassis. He was a member of the Big E Club at Eldora Speedway and the UMP Racing Sanction organization. He raced for over 25 years and was awarded the 2009 Eldora Speedway Sportsman of the Year.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to the service, Friday at the funeral home.
