John Nixon, 76

John R. Nixon, 76, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born July 27, 1935, in Clarksburg, W. Va., to Stella Pearl Bartlett and George Jefferson Sr., who preceded him in death. On Jan. 8, 1956, he married Barbara Ann Hefner and she survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Mark Alan (Merry) Nixon, of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Jolene Ann (Mark) Waitman, of Waynesfield; two grandchildren, Kyle A. Waitman and Brock D. Waitman; and a brother, George Jefferson Nixon Jr., of Lima.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Moses Nixon and William Robert Nixon; and three sisters, Ruth Marie Wolverton, Beatrice Kerr and Mary Lee Gerrard.
John had been a lifelong farmer having served on the Allen County Fair Board for many years and was inducted in to the Allen County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame this past fair season. He was responsible for bringing in big name entertainment and making donations to the Jr. Fair Livestock Auction among other contributions. He had graduated from Shawnee High School in 1953. He cherished spending time with his family, and his grandchildren were the light of his world.
Services are at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev.Katie Hayes officiating. Burial is to follow in Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be given to the Allen County 4-H program, Allen County Fair Building Fund or the Waynesfield United Methodist Church.
