Joan Light, 88

Joan Burke Light, 88, of Lima, died at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 6, 1924, in Lima, to Mary Lucile (Nichols) and Howard E. Burke. On Oct. 1, 1948, she married Judge Robert M. Light, and he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 2001.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Burke (Vicki) Light, of Santa Clarita, Calif.; three daughters, Kathleen O’Hara Light, of Lima, Janie Beth Light (Scott) Hayes, of Austin, Texas, and Jodi Light (Mario) Mendivil, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandsons; and a granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Burke Darrah; and a brother Dr. John W. (Frida) Burke, of Lima.
Mrs. Light had been a homemaker and had an avid interest in theatre, dogs and horses. She had been a member of the Flat Landers Riding Club, helped with the Equestrian Therapy Program and was a past board member for the Allen County Humane Society. She had also been a member of the Junior Service League and the Elkes. She had worked with the Encore Theater and played the title role in “Driving Miss Daisy”.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Contributions may be given to The Equestrian Therapy Program or the Humane Society.
