Jeannette E. Sallz Hughes, 93

Jeannette E. Sallz Hughes, 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:45 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at Auglaize Acres. She was born March 8, 1920, in Waynesfield, the daughter of Weaver Kelso and Maria (Lusk) Sallaz, who preceded her in death. On July 14, 1946, she married Kenneth M. Hughes, and he died Aug. 14, 1989.
Survivors include, two children, Elizabeth “Beth” (Gary) Burden and Duane K. (Shirley) Hughes, both of Wapakoneta; four grandchildren, Angela Counts, Kelli Burden, Christi (Chris) Schellenberg, and Kenny Hughes, all of Wapakoneta; six great-grandchildren, Cory Counts, Cody Counts, Caitlyn Badertscher, Cheyenne, Caleb, and Collin Schellenberg; two sisters-in-law, Ruth (Paul) Bradford, and Echo Sawmiller, both of Wapakoneta; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carrie and Clyde Dingledine, Karl Hughes and Carl Sawmiller.
A homemaker, Jeannette worked as office manager at W.T. Grant Co., Wapakoneta. She was a graduate of Waynesfield High School and attended the Northwestern School of Commerce, Lima. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, the United Methodist Women and the Hannah Circle. Her other memberships included the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #691, Auxiliary, and the former Koneta Chapter #385 O.E.S., now the Hawthorne Chapter #119 O.E.S., St. Marys. Her hobbies included knitting, puzzles, sewing and bowling. She most especially enjoyed being Mom and Grandma.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, state Route 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Kimberly Pope-Seiberling officiating. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Friday and one hour prior to the service, Saturday at the funeral home. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
