James Seitz, 89
James J. âJimâ Seitz, 89, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2013, in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Wapakoneta, the oldest child of Alice (McEvoy) and Robert Seitz, and he graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Geraldine âJeriâ (Brown) Seitz; a daughter, Mary Jane Wier (Brad Jeffrey), of Worthington; two brothers, Robert Seitz, of Wapakoneta, and William (Kathie) Seitz of Honor, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews that were like children to him.
Jim earned his bachelorâs degree in business from Wittenberg University in Springfield, and served with the 563rd Signal Air Warning Battalion of the U.S Army during World War II, during the battle of Normandy and the campaigns of Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He had worked with Famous Supply Company in Mansfield as a manager and salesman for the plumbing and heating company. He retired from L&B Manufacturing in Mount Vernon, a Famous Supply subsidiary.
A big college and professional football fan, Jim was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment is to be in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church in Mansfield.
