Indictment issued In 1981 murder case

January 2, 2014

ST. MARYS — Auglaize County Prosecuting Attorney Edwin A. Pierce and St. Marys Police Chief Mark announced today that Paul Hoover, 52, recently of Eustis, Fla., was presented before the Auglaize County Common Pleas Court on an indictment returned by the September 2013 term of the Auglaize County Grand Jury.

The indictment charges Hoover with one count of aggravated murder. The indictment stems from the homicide of Marcellus Reineke, in St. Marys in October 1981. Pierce advised the indictment does not contain death penalty specifications. Hoover was arrested on the indictment in the state of Florida on Dec. 13 and was returned to the state of Ohio after waiving extradition from the state of Florida.

The St. Marys Police Department is continuing its investigation into the homicide as there are other persons of interest associated with the homicide. Ernst and Pierce encouraged anyone with information concerning the murder of Reineke contact the St. Marys Police Department immediately.

Both Prosecutor Pierce and Chief Ernst stated they would not make any further remarks or take any additional questions concerning the investigation.
