Homer W. â€śPeteâ€ť Helmlinger, 91, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Auglaize Acres.
He was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Auglaize County, the son of Malinda (Knarr) and William S. Helmlinger, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 16, 1945, he married Cleola Carter, and she survives. They just celebrated 68 years of marriage.
Also surviving are four daughters, Darla (Ernie) Wilson, of Sparta, Tenn., Tana (Loren) Elsass, of Wapakoneta, Dee Dee (Tom) Barton, of Waynesfield, and Lisa (Allen) Deville, of Wapakoneta; 13 grandchildren, Ryan Wilson, Shauna Wilson Ciolek, Jeremy Elsass, Jonathon Elsass, Julie Elsass Herbst, Scott Dickman, Dana Dickman McKeeman, Sara Barton, David Barton, Dannielle Steinke Widmark, Shane Steinke, Cody Steinke, and Josh Deville; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Doris Kah, of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law, Marie Carter, of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Copeland; and two brothers, Howard Helmlinger and Henry Helmlinger.
A farmer, Pete also worked as a custodian and bus driver with the Wapakoneta City Schools. He was a lifelong member of St. Markâ€™s Lutheran Church in Clay Township. His other memberships included the Farm Bureau and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 691, all of Wapakoneta. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Markâ€™s Lutheran Church in Clay Township, with the Rev. Shannon Vogelezang officiating. Burial will follow at St. Markâ€™s Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
