Helen Roop, 83

Helen L. Roop, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Hazel L. (Smith) and Don Wm. Benzing, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 26, 1949, she married T.J. Roop, and he survives.
Other survivors include three children, Peg Mitchell, of Wapakoneta, Dennis (Theresa) Roop, of Cridersville, and Barbara (James) Smith, of Wapakoneta; a son-in-law, Russell Phillips, of Celina; a daughter-in-law, Gabi Benzing, of Wapakoneta; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, William (Greta) Benzing, of Mansfield; and a sister, Mildred (Robert) Moell, of Wake Forest, NC.
She was preceded in death by three children, Paul Benzing, Carolyn Phillips, and Beverly Roop.
A homemaker, Helen retired in 1986 after 25 years service at Huffy Corp. in Celina. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta and a 1948 graduate of Blume High School. Helen and T.J. enjoyed camping, and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Becky Sunday officiating. Burial is to follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
