Helen Niese, 89

Helen L. “Dolly” Niese, 89, of Wapakoneta, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Lenora (Ruck) and David Orphal, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 24, 1946, she married Gilbert Niese, and he died March 18, 1993.
Surviving are eight children, Kristine (Jim) Ewald, of Wapakoneta, Cindy (Phil) DiSorbo, of Ghent, N.Y., Phil (Deb) Niese, of Wapakoneta, Melissa (Jim) Staelgraeve, of Temperance, Mich., Tom (Sue) Niese, of Wapakoneta, Mitch (Brenda) Niese, of Liberty Township, Leslie (Mike) Covey, of Ashville, and Doug (Vi) Niese, of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Eiser; and a sister, Jane Sunderland.
A homemaker, Dolly, along with her husband Gilbert, founded Thermal Maintenance Co. in Wapakoneta. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Wapakoneta, and a graduate of St. Joseph High School. She hosted the family Christmas party every year and delighted in buying gifts for everyone.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Hunt officiating. Private family burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
The family is to receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church Renovation Fund, Auglaize County Humane Society, or Community Health Professionals of Tri-County Hospice.
