From staff reports
Harmon Field in Wapakoneta will host two more playoff games this weekend, making it six total for the fall of 2013.
The site will feature a Division VI state semifinal between Mechanicsburg (11-2) and Haviland Wayne Trace (12-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Friday’s game will be Mechanicsburg second straight playoff game at Harmon Field.
The stadium will also host two Midwest Athletic Conference schools in a Division VII state semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, as Marion Local (13-0) will meet St. John’s (9-4) in a Division VII state semifinal at 7 p.m. Saturday at Harmon Field.
The Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays blanked Arlington, 33-0, on Saturday in the Division VII, Region 24 final at Lima Stadium.
The Marion Local Flyers shut out North Lewisburg Triad (12-1), 50-0, on Saturday in the Division VII, Region 26 championship in Piqua.
The Flyers have now made seven straight state semifinals after their win Saturday.
Saturday’s game will be the sixth consecutive time Harmon Field has hosted a state semifinal for the state’s smallest division. All six games will have involved a MAC school when Saturday arrives.
The two MAC powers faced in 2009, with St. John’s winning a 13-7 contest in overtime before losing the state championship the following week to Norwalk St. Paul, 24-21, the only time St. John’s has ever lost a state title game (6-1 all time)
Marion Local and St. John’s met in 2011 in the same round of the Division VI tournament, with Marion Local winning and then claiming a state title one week later.
Incidentally, three of this year’s four Division VII state semifinalists reached the same round of the Division VI playoffs in 2011, as Berlin Center Western Reserve also made it that far in both years.
The Coldwater Cavaliers (11-2), also from the MAC, crushed Huron (9-3) in the Division V, Region 16 championship Saturday at Donnell Stadium in Findlay.
The Cavaliers’ win Saturday gave the program at least 11 wins for the 14th straight season, starting in 2000.
Coldwater will face West Jefferson (12-1) in a Division V state semifinal at 7 p.m. Saturday at Purk Field at Alexander Stadium in Piqua.
The Cavaliers are seeking their fifth consecutive state championship appearance.View more articles in:
