H. LaVerne Wertz, 89

H. LaVerne Wertz, 89, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born May 29, 1922, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Malinda (Kinstle) and William “Bill” Veit, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 31, 1943, she married Llewellyn F. Wertz, and he died March 29, 1997.
Surviving are a son, Franklin L. (Patricia McCain) Wertz, of Wapakoneta; four grandchildren, Kelly (Bryan) Huffman, of Puyallup, Wash., David Wertz, of Toledo; Frank L. Wertz, of Berlin, Wis., Nicole (Jerry) Sawmiller, of Wapakoneta; nine great-grandchildren; a great great-grandson; and her pet dog, Mandy.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Conrad “Coonie” Veit, Edmond Veit, Frank Veit, and Harry Veit; and two sisters, Agnes Koch and Viola Leibrick.
A homemaker, she had retired in 1984 after 30 years of service at Superior Tube Co. in Wapakoneta. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. Her hobbies included reading, gardening, cooking and most especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Services are at 3 p.m. Friday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be given to St. Rita’s Hospice.
