H. Gene Tester, 65

H. Gene Tester, 65, of 08304 Co. Road 33A in Wapakoneta, died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at his residence. He fought a 5 1/2 year battle with multiple myeloma, and passed away peacefully with his family and close friends at his bedside. He was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Celina, to Howard and Wilma (Schultz) Tester. On Aug. 21, 1971, at Westview United Methodist Church in Cridersville, he married Cathy J. Archer, who survives.

Also survived by:  daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Axe,  of Wapakoneta, daughter, Kristina (Damon Martin) Tester,  of Marysville, son, Joshua (Jennifer) Tester,  of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren: Dillon Axe, Olivia Tester and Camden Tester; mother, Wilma Tester,  of Wapakoneta; sister, Annabelle Zwiebel,  of Wapakoneta, father-in-law, Vernon (Linda) Archer  of Wapakoneta; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by:  father, Howard Tester, mother-in-law, Marilyn Jean Archer, and brother-in-law, James Zwiebel.

He was a 1966 graduate of Wapakoneta Senior High School. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong farmer. His memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church in Moulton, VFW Post # 8445 in Wapakoneta and the National Rifle Association.

Gene was a hard-working man and a bit of a jokester. His favorite pastimes included fishing, following sports of all types and watching game shows on television. Above all, he dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Joy Miller officiating. Burial, with graveside military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
