Golden Fresh Farms broke ground Wednesday at the Wapakoneta Jobs Ready Site for the construction of a 20-acre greenhouse.

The first phase of the potential eight-phase project represents a capital investment of $22.5 million that will create 52 full-time jobs with an annual payroll of $1.9 million.

Paul Mastronardi and Louie Chibante, principal owners of Golden Fresh Farms, recently announced a $100 million capital investment over the first four phases of the project. That capital investment could expand to $250 million with land covering 200 acres with completion of all eight phases.

The company currently operates 100 acres of greenhouses in Kingsville, Ontario.

The facility's first crop is due in December: tomatoes.

See Thursday's paper for a full story on the event.
