George Cecere, 85

George A. Cecere, 85, of Wapakoneta, died 1at 2:06 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Pittsburgh, the son of Maddelina (DeNicola) and Nicola Cecere, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 3, 1951, he married Anna Kay Palombo, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cheryl (Todd) Williamson, of Lima, and Joni (Chris) Clarahan, of Ruskin, Fla.; a son, George D. (Terri) Cecere, of LaGrange, Ky.; four grandchildren, Joanna (Fred) Dill, Andrew (Wendy) Murino, Nick (Amanda) Cecere, and Jamie (Seth) Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Brennen, Carter, Adrianna, and Evelyn; two brothers, Andrew Cecere, of Richmond, Ind., and Nick Cecere, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jay Vita and Rosie Monaco; and three brothers, Joe Cecere, Frank Cecere, and James Cecere.
An accountant, George retired from Ford Motor Company Lima Engine Plant in 1986. He was a graduate of Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in Germany. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta. A life member of the V.F.W. Post 8445, his other memberships included the former Elks 1170, Eagles Aerie 691, and the American Legion Post 330, all of Wapakoneta. He served several years as secretary of the Greenlawn Cemetery Association. in Wapakoneta. An avid reader, George had a passion for enigmatalogy.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
