Funding helps improve Acres parking lot

More than $110,800 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) formula funding is to be used to make improvements to storm sewers and for asphalt resurfacing at Auglaize Acres.
Auglaize County Administrator Joe Lenhart said Wednesday that more than $22,000 of the funding is to be used for storm sewer improvements at the county nursing home on Infirmary Road.
A mandatory contractor walk-thru is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the site. Work is to be completed by Sept. 1. Bids for the project must be received by 11 a.m. July 26.
“For years and years, the downspouts out here have drained onto the asphalt and some of the water lays on the parking lot,” Lenhart said. “It’s hard on the asphalt.”
The project would move downspouts away so the water would no longer run onto the asphalt, making it last longer as well as easing safety concerns of the water freezing into ice during colder months.
A mandatory contractor walk-thru for asphalt resurfacing at the Acres also is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday with bids
for that project opened at 11 a.m. July 26. Work on the asphalt is to be completed by Oct. 15.
The asphalt portion of the project is estimated at $88,790, which would resurface all of the Acres’ parking lot areas.
“Going back three years ago we had this listed as an alternate project for CDBG Formula funding,” Lenhart said. “It’s always been on the burner.”
He said while original plans were to resurface and restripe the front parking lot, the state was requiring excess Revolving Loan Funds be spent on projects or returned to them.
“We decided to use that for projects in the county,” Lenhart said.
