Friends of a Buckland woman who lost all her belongings and suffered injuries in a fire days before Christmas are hoping the community comes out to offer its support at a fundraiser this weekend.
From 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Buckland Fire Department a bingo benefit is being planned for Becky Krites. Her friends, Missy Johnson and Niki Oren, are planning the event with the help of a large number of supporters. Tickets for the event must be purchased by Friday to attend.
Only 150 tickets are being sold because of limited space in the building where the event is being held.
Items donated as bingo and raffle prizes are from Premier Jewelry, Thirty-One Gifts, Scentsy, True Life Photography, L & G Truck Stop, Bella Mia, Pink Zebra, Tupperware, Mary Kay, LaGrande Pizza, and Pioneer.
Ten or more games of bingo are to be played, plus a 50/50 drawing, and a raffle ticket drawing. Drinks and snacks are to be available throughout the afternoon.
“This is something we decided we wanted to do to help her,” said Johnson, who went to high school with Krites. “We want to be able to help her put her life back together.
“She needs everything,” she said. “She’s lost everything from photographs, which can’t be replaced, to toothpaste, furniture and appliances. She’s had to completely start over. We just want to help any way we can.”
A couple days before Christmas, 45-year-old Krites suffered second- and third-degree burns to her back, arms, hands and the bottoms of her feet in the fire, many of the injuries she got while trying to save her golden retriever, who died in the fire. The two-story home she lived in for 15 years at 101 High St. was a total loss.
She lost everything and needs everything, friends said at the time.
While Krites has been able to return to work, she still is in need of so many items and has been staying with family.
