Between Feb. 1 and April 30, 2014, Walmart has offered Maggie Wannemacher, founder of PC-ER, LLC, an opportunity to open 20 veteran-operated franchises in Ohio.
PC-ER, LLC stands for personal computer and equipment repair, and according to Wannemacher, is a business opportunity for veterans or veteran’s family members interested in technology repair.
“They would be doing computer repair, laptop repair, tablets, cellphones, helping out with Walmart, doing their warranty work,” Wannemacher said. “We’d be doing classes, instructional kind of stuff in the Walmart stores with their customers.”
The company, PC Doctor, currently located at 5 E. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta, started out inside the Wapakoneta Walmart. Wannemacher said this project all started back in 2007, and from there it needed to be tested.
“This was all part of the Walmart plan, we wanted to test the project, then we wanted to move the store inside of the Walmart to downtown to see what we would lose as far as business,” she said.
The plan and project testing worked and did exactly what it needed to, and provided the answers that were sought.
“In the same time frame, what they asked us to do (Walmart) was put a store in Lima and one in Celina, which we did,” she said. “We ran those two stores for about 2.5 years in both of those locations, and in March of last year we had been in contact with Walmart and decided what we wanted to do was actually make a franchise.”
Wannemacher said that in the process of franchising the business they needed to pull their stores out of Walmart locations in order to get all of the documents written and everything standardized.
Documents were sent back and forth, rewritten and finally, about a month ago, Walmart granted a pilot project, which allows them to work to get stores started and running between Feb. 1 and April 30.
“We’re trying to get ahold of veterans, we’ve kind of been going back and forth with the VA and colleges,” she said. “You name it, it’s every avenue we try to get. We want to give them a business.”
