FOOTBALL: Redskins hoping to face Franklin
A week ago, the Wapakoneta Redskins were undefeated and a lock for the OHSAA football playoffs.
Now they are 9-1 and in wait-and-see mode.
Barring intervention from the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the fifth-seeded Redskins will travel to Franklin to take on the fourth-seeded Wildcats, who are 9-1 and looking to host the first home playoff game in the school’s history.
After stumbling upon an OHSAA investigation into the residency of a player on the team, the school contacted the OHSAA on Wednesday and received confirmation of the investigation on Thursday.
Wapak had the player sit out Friday night’s 52-32 loss to Kenton as a precaution. The OHSAA told the school it would have a decision early this week.
The Middletown Journal is reporting that an email from an OHSAA official indicated three possible outcomes.
Wapak could be ruled eligible and nothing will change.
If the Redskins are ruled ineligible, Mount Healthy, the No. 9 team in the Harbin rankings, will play at Franklin.
Or, if Wapak is ruled ineligible late in the week, then Franklin would receive a first-round bye.
Wapak is moving ahead with preparations for the game and has released the ticket sale schedule.
Tickets will go on sale Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. for grade 9-12 players and parents, band parents, and reserved football season ticket holders.
Students and staff may purchase their tickets from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday from 8 a.m.
The general public may purchase tickets between noon and 3 p.m. on Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
Please note that the number of tickets available for purchase may be limited per individual.
