To kick off the St. Joseph Festival on July 4, the Friends of the Wapakoneta Public Library and the festival committee will host the fourth annual Firecracker 5k Run/Walk at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.
The race is the festival’s first event of the day, and will begin at 9 a.m. at the front gate of the fairgrounds.
The route is the same as last year, beginning at the fairgrounds and going down Auglaize Street, through Hamilton Road and Harrison Street, and will finish where it started.
Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runners and medals will be handed out to the top three in each age group, which ranges from 14 and under to 70 and over.
Race organizers are working with Speedy Feet, a racing group that will provide small plastic chips that will be fastened to each runner’s shoelace in order to time them. The timer will start as soon as the runner’s foot crosses the starting line and end when they cross the finish line.
