A traditional Christmas season event in Wapakoneta will soon be underway.
The 14th annual Festival of Trees is slated for Nov. 14-18, with donations still being accepted until Nov. 10.
The Festival of Trees is a silent auction of decorated Christmas trees and other decor to raise funds for the organization’s hospice care.
“It definitely gets you in the mood for Christmas,” Community Health Professionals Marketing Coordinator Niki DuVall said. “I have people tell me that they go every year.”
Businesses, organizations and individuals donate decorated items, including trees, wreaths and specialty items, to the Festival of Trees, which is sponsored by the Community Health Professionals of Tri-County, which is a non-profit and United Way of Auglaize County Partner Agency. The items are then up for silent auction throughout the event.
“This is something people look forward to each year,” DuVall said.
All of the proceeds from the event goes to the visiting nurses and hospice program through the Community Health Professionals of Tri-County and all of the money raised will stay in the county.
The funds help cover the expenses of medical supplies, care and equipment of the local hospice patients that are not covered by Medicare or insurance.
The community can stop by The Gardens of Wapakoneta from 1 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 14 through Nov. 17 and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 18. The event will include refreshments and raffles.
On Nov. 17, Santa Claus will be available to take pictures with the children from 2 to 4 p.m., along with children being able to take part in holiday crafts.
This will be the 13th year for the organization to host the event at The Gardens, and DuVall said that throughout the years they have created a great partnership with The Gardens through this program.
“We moved out to The Gardens when they opened,” DuVall said. “It got people into the facility. The residents just love it, too.”
All are invited to attend the free event, and there are opportunities for raffle prizes with raffle tickets that will be available for purchase.
The top trees and decorations will be voted on the Tuesday prior to the event, and then a tag will note the winners during the duration of the event.
The deadline to sponsor a Christmas tree, wreath or centerpiece is Nov. 10. Contact 419-738-7430 for more information, visit The Gardens, 505 Walnut St., Wapakoneta, or Community Health Professionals, 803 Brewfield Dr., Wapakoneta for more information.
DuVall, along with planning committee members Jana Ashba, Pam Miner and Brenda Meckstroth have been working on this event for months, along with the help of the staff of Community Health Professionals, The Gardens of Wapakoneta and the Women’s Civic League of Wapakoneta, who volunteer their time to man the front table during the event.
