Ferd R. Link, 94, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:23 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at Auglaize Acres. He was born Jan. 24, 1920,  Moulton Township, Auglaize County, the son of Ferdinand and Nellie (Wheeler) Link, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 17, 1943, he married Betty J. Berg, and she died Aug. 2, 2006.

Survivors include, two sons, Dennis P. Link, of Gainesville, Fla., and Craig A. (Wanda M.) Link, of Wapakoneta; three grandchildren, Shannon (Brian) Short, of Thornville, Ohio, Aaron C. Link, of Moreland Hills, Ohio, and Emily Link, of Gainesville, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Summer and Sarah Short, Kayla and Sophia Link; two sisters-in-law, Connie Link, of Wapakoneta, and Irene Jarvis, of New Bremen, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three siblings, William Link, Imogene Deerhake, and Harold “Bud” Link.

Ferd retired after 42 years service at Westinghouse Corp. in Lima. He served in the U.S. Army with the 787th Military Police Battalion during World War II. His memberships included the St. Paul United Church of Christ, a 60-year member of the Hamer Lodge #167, F. & A.M., and a 50-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, all of Wapakoneta.  He was a former member of the V.F.W., Post #8445, the American Legion, Post #330, and the Amvets, Post #333, all of Wapakoneta. He and his wife Betty supported their grandchildren with their attendance at their sporting and school activities. He enjoyed working outside, gardening, and was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, state Route 501, Wapakoneta, with Pastor Becky Sunday officiating. Burial is to follow in the Buckland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W., Post #8445. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the honor guard at the Wapakoneta V.F.W.
