Farmer involved in accident

October 15, 2012

A rural Wapakoneta man is listed in critical condition after being involved in a farming accident Saturday morning.

Bill Berg, 71, 13870 Kohler Road, Wapakoneta, was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to St. Rita’s Medical Center at 11 a.m. after a farming accident at approximately 10:30 a.m.

According to a report with the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Berg and another family member had been working on a seeder behind a tractor that was having functional problems. After repairing the seeder, the driver of the tractor pulled out when he thought the area was cleared. He completed another row before realizing Berg had been run over. The incident occurred on family-owned owned land at 12759 Kohler Road.

The sheriff’s report did not indicate what Berg’s injuries were but defined Berg’s status as critical.

Officials at St. Rita’s did not have information on Berg’s status this morning.

Berg, a lifetime farmer, is a former vice chairman and a current member of the National Corn Growers Association Growers Service Action Team.

New Knoxville first responders and St. Marys Emergency Medical Service also responded to the scene.
