Fairlawn outlasts Botkins to win SCAL match in 5

The Botkins Trojans nearly found their first win in Shelby County Athletic League play Thursday but were defeated in a close five-game match against the Fairlawn Jets in Sidney.

Fairlawn emerged victorious with scores of 26-24, 24-26, 17-25, 25-18 and 18-16.

Their loss kept the Trojans winless in SCAL matches, as they dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-5 in the SCAL.

Denise Schwartz paced Botkins with 15 kills Thursday. Rachelle Maurer and Sami Vehorn added 11 kills each.

Allison Guckes tallied 30 digs in the match, while Jocelyn Counts recorded 27 assists.

Botkins will continue its season at 11 a.m. Saturday with a non-league match on the road against the Riverside Pirates.
