Fair board fills 2 spots
The Auglaize County Agricultural Society filled its last two open positions this week on the fair board.
Kevin Turner was chosen by fair board members Monday to fill the Logan Township representative position, while Dru Meyer was selected as the Wapakoneta city representative at the meeting.
Those two, along with Doug Roediger, had expressed interest in filling the vacant seats. They will serve in those positions until next November.
Fair Board Secretary and Fairgrounds Manager Fred Piehl said the two should be great for the positions.
“Dru has helped out previously with the Fine Arts Department,” Piehl said. “Kevin Turner had helped out with the Beef Department and other areas. They both have helped and will fit right in.”
Roediger also has volunteered his services for the fair and will likely still help out, Piehl said.
The two positions were left open after Bob Nedderman gave up his Logan Township seat to take an at-large position on the board and long-time board member Cora Kettler was unable to run due to health reasons.
Fair Board members signed three contracts for performances during the 2012 fair. The T-102 Country Star playoffs will again be held at the fair on Wednesday, and the Earthquakers and Nashville Crush were signed to provide entertainment Friday and Saturday nights.
Also, a contract was signed with Smash It Demos out of Marysville to again organize the demolition derby, which will be on Thursday night. Smash It has taken care of the demolition derby for several years, Piehl said.
Fair Board members also discussed the possibility of bringing back professional wrestling, which has been a popular draw.
“It has been well received,” Piehl said. “It will likely be back here next year.”
The Shower Committee, which is attempting to raise money for new showers in the campgrounds, announced they will hold a reverse raffle on April 24 as a fundraiser. Tickets will go on sale right after the first of the year, Piehl said.
