Evon Schlenker, 93

Evon E. Schlenker, 93, a lifelong Wapakoneta resident, died Tuesday evening, March 19, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Freda (Hengstler) and Albert Knatz. On Aug. 5, 1939, she married John H. Schlenker, and he preceded her in death on May 15, 2002.
Evon and her husband, John, began dairy farming shortly after they were married. A lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta, she also was a member of the Wapakoneta Woman’s Club and the Soroptimist Club, serving terms as president of both organizations. She was instrumental in planning festivities when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.
Evon was an avid bridge player and liked to play cards with her friends. She painted and created many other crafts. She loved spending time and traveling with her family.
Surviving are four children, Peggy (Jack) Prater, of Wapakoneta, John (Jean) Schlenker, of Wapakoneta, Philip (Diane) Schlenker, of Wapakoneta, and Michael (Joyce) Schlenker, all of Wapakoneta; 13 grandchildren, Michele Prater, Scott Prater, J.T. Schlenker, Amy (Shawn) Thompson, Robin (Brian) Clay, Tracy Schlenker, David (Amy) Schlenker, Lori (Dan) Schroer, Dawn (Steve) Miller, Heather Nolte, Matthew (Missy) Schlenker, Leanne (Chris) Moninger, and Courtney Schlenker; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a three siblings, Vernon Knatz, Helen Kessens and Lura Mae Munson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Jeff Davis and Becky Sunday officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be Sat. at the church following the service until 5 p.m. in Timmermeister Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul United Church of Christ or God’s Storehouse.
