Elizabeth Place, 100, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:12 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Wapak Manor Nursing Home in Wapakoneta.
She was born Aug. 15, 1911, in Auglaize County, the daughter of the late Chloe (Pierstorff) and Frank Gibson. On April 3, 1937, she married Bryan Wilbur Place, who died May 16, 2005, after 68 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald L. (Brenda) Place, of Wapakoneta, and Randal G. (Debra) Place, of Wapakoneta; two daughters, Marilyn (Kermit) Kindred, of Wapakoneta, and Denise Hines, of Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren, Kimberly (Tony) Price, Rick (Margery) Place, Chris (Roger) Granger, Lynn Place, Paula (Keith) Steinke, Darcie (William) Schalk, Renee Hines, Ryan Hines, Amanda (William) Speros, Drs. Melissa (Nathan) Metz, and Alisha (Alex) Frost; 16 greatgrandchildren; several great great-grandchildren; a brother , Robert Gibson, of Wapakoneta; and a sister-in-law , Eva Gibson, of Lima.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Gibson; and four sisters, Evelyn Greely, Marjorie Mcguire, Helen Gibson, and Dorothy Gibson.
Elizabeth spent her life on the family farm, helping with dairy cows, gardening and the day to day activities of being a farm wife. She was a member of the Buckland United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Womenâ€™s Fellowship group. She was a 1930 Lima Central High School graduate. She was a member of the Wapakoneta Senior Citizens and the Logan Grange. Her grandchildren gave her great joy, and she loved spending time with her family.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, with the Rev. Gary Bragg officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Amanda Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, in Cridersville.
Contributions may be made to Buckland United Church of Christ , Harvest Baptist Church or the activities fund at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
