Election results require official recount

November 29, 2013

Auglaize County Board of Elections Director Michelle Wilcox and Board member Bill Roth hand-tally one precinct of the Botkins School District Board of Education in the election’s official recount.

The Auglaize County Board of Elections held official recounts from the Nov. 5 general election for both the Botkins School District Board of Education and the Duchouquet Township Trustees.
Recounts were required because the vote totals were too close, making it an “automatic recount.”
“They have to be separated by more than a half of one percent,” Auglaize County Board of Elections Director Michelle Wilcox said. “They were that close.”
For both recounts, election board members hand-tallied five percent of the total votes, along with the absentee and provisional votes. The 5 percent of the votes was chosen randomly by drawing precincts written on pieces of paper out of a container.
All of the votes are sent through a tallying machine for a total recount.
