Locals are invited to come out and meet the candidates for 2013 general election during an election forum to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Wapakoneta’s YMCA Community Room.
The Wapakoneta Daily News is organizing the event as a service to the community, Publisher Deb Zwez said.
“It’s really important for the community to ask questions,” Zwez said, noting that the forum is open to the public.
Three candidates for two seats for the Wapakoneta City School Board of Education include incumbents Willie H. Sammetinger and Brent Schwartz and newcomer, Erick Schmelzer, and four candidates for the Wapakoneta City Council’s three councilors-at-large seats include incumbents Thomas S. Finkelmeier Jr., Randy L. Fisher and Daniel C. Graf and former 4th Ward Councilor Rachel Barber. The seven were invited to the forum.
“All the candidates will have the opportunity to introduce him or herself,” Zwez said, “and then open it up to the floor for questions to school board or council candidates.”
Zwez recommended voters to take advantage and to make use of this resource available to them to get to know the candidates.
She said there are two new faces in the election, and the forum is crucial for voters to know who they could be possibly electing into office.
“This gives them the opportunity to see and be seen in an event that is designed just for that purpose,” Zwez said.
Four members of Wapakoneta City Council are running unopposed. They are 1st Ward Councilor Jim Neumeier, 2nd Ward Council Dan Lee, 3rd Ward Councilor Bonnie Wurst and 4th Ward Councilor Chad Doll.
The forum will be taking place five days before voting for the general election which is on Tuesday.
