E. Lucille (Bushong) Eichhorn, 86

E. Lucille (Bushong) Eichhorn, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:41 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville.

She was born July 27, 1925, in Williamstown, the daughter of M. Marie (Steinman) and Marion U. Bushong, who preceded her in death. In 1964, she married C. Gaylord Eichhorn who died in 1967.  

Surviving are a brother, Everett Bushong, of Dunkirk; a step-daughter, Gladys Whitmer, of Kettering; and several nieces, nephews, and step-relatives.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Lucille graduated from Dunkirk High School, and was as 1947 graduate of the Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education. She did post-graduate studies at the University of Colorado and Miami of Ohio.  Mrs. (Bushong) Eichhorn taught school at the Wapakoneta City Schools for 17 years, and then at the Troy City Schools for 13 years.  After retirement, she worked at the Ohio Northern University Heterick Memorial Library for one year.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta.  She was active in local, state, and national teacher’s associations; church groups, official boards, and commissions.  She traveled in many foreign countries and most of the United States.  Her recent hobbies included music, and reading, both biographical and inspirational.

Services are set ffor 10:30 a.m. Thurday at First United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta, with the Revs. Mary Bushong and R. J. Davis officiating.  Burial follows in the Dunkirk Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Contributions may be directed to the E. Lucille Eichhorn Scholarship Fund to benefit a Wapakoneta High School graduate pursuing a degree in education, or to St. Rita’s Hospice, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
