Tethered hot air balloon rides and a kids entertainment section are two new features that will highlight the downtown portion of the 2014 Summer Moon Festival, which will also include more than 15 events, music, rides and games.

Events will take place July 17, 18 and 19 behind the downtown area near the Auglaize River. The entire festival, which also features the Miss Summer Moon Festival Scholarship Pageant and events at the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, runs from July 16-20.

Tethered hot air balloon rides will be given from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and will float into the air at about 30 feet.

Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Bruckner Nature Center in Troy will be bringing various animals for children to interact with. Children will also be able to participate in various arts and crafts sessions throughout the day.

“We’re focusing on getting families involved on Saturday, so there will be lots of different things for them to do,” Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Lindsay Zielonka said. “We’ll also have things like a free canoe float where you can take your family out on the Auglaize River in a canoe.”

Zielonka said family activities such as the canoe float will begin at 9 a.m. and will run until 3 p.m.
