The Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership discussed its accomplishments of 2013, its goals for 2014 and handed out several awards at its annual meeting and dinner at the Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday evening.
“There were so many things to be accomplished and it was all done thanks to fabulous people who spent a lot of time,” DWP President Judie Presar said.
Perhaps the largest project that the DPW took on in 2013 was the Facade Improvement Program, which sought to encourage and financially support downtown Wapakoneta property and business owners wishing to restore, renovate or preserve their buildings, while maintaining the historic integrity of downtown.
According to Facade Improvement Committee Chairperson Sue Siesel, the program has been a success so far.
“Downtown Wapakoneta, in one year, saw $40,000 of renewal, restoration and renovation to the facades of buildings,” Siesel said. “I think for a first-year project that is funded totally by community support and partners, that’s something that really needs to be celebrated. I think everyone in this community should be extremely proud of this endeavor.”
