Dorothy Akers, 90

Dorothy E. Akers, 90, of Columbus, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 1:44 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus.
She was born in Hardin County, the daughter of Daisy (Ferguson) and Harry Sheperd, who preceded her in death. On July 18, 1942, she married David M. Akers, and he died Oct. 31, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Lynn) Wilcox, of Pickerington; two grandchildren, Barbara (Kevin) Mullins and David (Cathy) Mincks; five great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Michael, Erica, Brian, and Mary; and a sister, Lucille (Edward) Post, of Bellefontaine.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Dixie L. and Douglas Mincks, and five brothers and sisters.
A homemaker, Dorothy worked at Miller’s Laundry in Wapakoneta. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta and its women’s group.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Dr. George Winters officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
