Donald E. King, 84

Donald E. King, 84, of Cadillac, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Saginaw VA Medical Center . He was born June 24, 1929, in Fryburg, Ohio, to William and Mary (Bonnoront) King.

Don retired from Northern Propane Gas Company after 30 years of faithful service. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as golf, bike riding, hunting, baseball games and swimming. Don was an active member in the Cadillac community from fundraising events for the Veterans to managing the American Legion baseball teams. He was pivotal in having the Korean War memorial built and was also the driving force for the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall coming through Cadillac. He was the post Commander from 1970-1971 of American Legion Post 94 of Cadillac and remained an active member since.

Don is survived by family members, Donna L. King, of Auburndale Fla., daughter Tana K. (Melvin) Beiderman, of Wapakoneta, daughter Vicki L. Hatfield, of Auburndale Fla., daughter Sheryl Ann Norris, of Sarsota Fla., daughter Rhonda M. King, of Pensacola Fla., son William (Janet) King, of Nashville Tenn.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with multiple nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home, Cadillac. Officiating will be Jim Helmboldt. Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Saginaw, VA Medical Center C/O Palliative Care Team, 1500 W. Weiss St. Saginaw, MI 48602-5298.
