Law enforcement officials are now investigating the death of an Auglaize County man as a homicide. The man was found dead in his home Monday afternoon.

Charles E. Hicks, 54, of Uniopolis, was found dead inside his home after deputies were dispatched to 2 S. Main St., Uniopolis, at 4:30 p.m. Monday for a welfare check. Hicks reportedly was not recently seen by coworkers and friends.

In a news release, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon called the death suspicious and revealed few details of the investigation. Solomon said preliminary autopsy reports indicate Hicks' death was "not natural and caused by another." Solomon said he is not releasing any further information regarding Hicks' death so as to not jeopardize the investigation.

Deputies, detectives, the Auglaize County Coroner’s Office and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI) continue to investigate the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the detectives at the sheriff’s office at 419-739-6555.

"This office is working hard to solve this case and would welcome any helpful information," Solomon said.
