A Day at the Pound

Students took turns petting and cuddling puppies and kittens while learning about their care during a special event at Cridersville Elementary School on Monday.
Paraeducator Laura Hadding organized the event as a fun activity on the last day of school before Thanksgiving break. All of the school’s kindergarten through fourth-grade students got a turn visiting the activity housed in the gym. While there they learned about pet care from an employee and volunteer of the Humane Society of Auglaize County, got their faces painted to look like
their favorite cats and dogs, made their own pet collars, and participated in obedience training alongside Bentley and his owner, Peggy Bailey, who volunteers regularly at the school. Upon completion of the training students were each given a graham cracker dog bone.
They also snacked on animal crackers while watching “Pound Puppy” movies in the Dog House Theatre and could take a break and read dog-themed books as well.
Each of the five stations had a carefully selected name and each provided a different kind of fun for the students on their first and last day of school for the week.
“It’s just a fun day for the kids,” Hadding said.
