Daniel Davies, 70

Daniel M. “Dan” Davies, 70, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:29 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at the Lima Memorial Health System Emergency Room.
He was born Nov. 15, 1941, in Superior, Wis., the son of Berta (Marks) and Philip Davies, who preceded him in death. On July 15, 1978, he married Beverly J. Hawkins, and she survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Jo Anne Davies, of Gahanna, Elise (Julius) Heil, of Gladstone, N.J., Sarah Davies, of Antioch, Calif., Paula (Tom Berg) Davies, of Wasilla, Ark., and Danika (Matthew) Smith, of Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren, Julius Timothy Heil, Alaina Heil, and Levi Daniel Smith; two brothers, David (Jo Anne) Davies, of Plainwell, Mich., and Richard (Janice) Davies, of Sheboygan, Wis.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Davies and Robert Davies.
Dan retired in 2000 after 40 years as a math teacher. He taught in Walkerton, Ind. Bloomington, Ind., Versailles, Sidney, and Wapakoneta Schools. He then taught at Apollo JVS, and UNOH. He started a very successful wrestling program at Versailles School, coached wrestling and football at Sidney High School, and coached wrestling at Wapakoneta City Schools. He, along with Gale Miller, started the Wapakoneta Kids Wrestling Program. He had dedicated his life to God, and was a founding and active member of Harvest Baptist Church, Wapakoneta. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Wapakoneta Country Club. His other hobbies included camping, traveling with his family, and hunting in Alaska with his daughter. He was a graduate of Sheboygan High School, Indiana State University, and received a master’s degree from the University of Dayton.
Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Harvest Baptist Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Gary Bragg officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. There will be no visitation of Fri.
Contributions may be directed to Harvest Baptist Church or the Wapakoneta Kids Wrestling Association.
