CROSS COUNTRY: Middle school sweep

October 17, 2012

OTTAWA —  The Wapakoneta Junior High Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams both posted strong showings at the 2012 Western Buckeye League Championship meet on Saturday, including first place finishes in both the girls and boys race.

The meet, held at Ottawa-Glandorf Memorial Park, featured all teams from the WBL, and Wapakoneta took home fourth place in both divisions.

The girls’ team was only 5 points out of second.  Several runners ran their personal best times from both teams as well.   Ellie Horman finished All-Conference with a stellar 8th place finish with a time of 13:41 for 2 miles.

Michaelia Fisher also ran her personal best time of 14:03, finishing 14th overall.

On the boys’ side, Will Zofkie gave his best effort of the year, finishing in 20th place with a 12:34.  Dusty Haggard also cut over a minute off of his personal best finishing 29th with a time of 13:15.

Stealing the show were 8th Graders Jordan Bowers (11:19) and Allie Zofkie (12:41).   Only one boy and one girl each year can call themselves Western Buckeye League Champions in cross country.  In 2012, both of those runners are from Wapakoneta.
