October 31, 2011

TROY — In a race loaded with state-ranked teams, the Botkins Trojans concluded their girls cross country season by placing sixth at the Division III regional meet Saturday at Troy.
West Liberty-Salem won the meet, followed by Versailles, Fort Loramie, Minster and Russia. It was the highest any girls Botkins team has finished at the regional meet since the 1996 season.
Brittany Bailey led the Trojans with a 17th-place individual finish, posting a time of 20:29.
Liz Knoop was 21st at 20:37, followed by Shelbie Bailey (55th, 21:33), Elleah Cooper (56th, 21:33), Bethany Christman (68th, 21:59), Jackie Smith (81st, 22:20) and Renee Buehler (84th, 22:30).
“I am so proud of what this girls team has accomplished this year,” Botkins coach Ryan Gutman said. “Five of our top seven will be graduating at year’s end. But what they have meant to me and the entire cross country program is beyond words.”
Roger Miller’s season also came to an end with a 38th place individual finish (17:41).
“He now knows what he is capable of doing,” Gutman said. He is excited for what lies ahead for him.”
